Auto Expedition is an automotive outfitter for off-road, overland, and adventure vehicles. Minion built the Shopify storefront and custom application ecosystem that transforms fragmented supplier data into a fitment-aware catalog, then connects the customer order to supplier routing and fulfillment.

The Challenge

Automotive ecommerce has a data problem before it has a storefront problem. Product catalogs arrive from multiple suppliers with different category structures, attributes, inventory feeds, and fulfillment requirements. At the same time, shoppers need confidence that every part fits their exact year, make, and model.

Auto Expedition needed one system that could normalize those inputs, make a large catalog useful to customers, and carry accurate order information back to suppliers without creating an unmanageable manual workload for its internal team.

Our Solution

Minion designed the platform around a shared product and vehicle data model. Supplier feeds and structured imports flow into a custom catalog application, approved category rules organize each product, and fitment data powers the storefront experience. The same foundation also coordinates supplier order routing and fulfillment updates.

  • Unified Supplier Data: API and feed integrations bring catalog data from Turn 14, ATD, Meyer, SEMA, and structured CSV sources into one product system.
  • Category Mapping: Configurable rules translate inconsistent supplier categories into Auto Expedition's approved storefront taxonomy and hold unmapped products out of the catalog.
  • Vehicle Fitment: A custom year, make, and model architecture connects Shopify products to compatible vehicles through structured fitment data.
  • Shop by Vehicle: Customers can select a vehicle, browse compatible parts, and confirm whether a product fits before purchasing.
  • My Garage: Shoppers can save multiple vehicles and return to a personalized catalog built around what they drive.
  • Catalog Administration: A custom Shopify application gives the Auto Expedition team an editable product table, source labels, import controls, and tools for managing supplier data.
  • Automated Catalog Sync: Scheduled processes keep product and inventory information current as supplier data changes.
  • Order Routing and Fulfillment: Supplier orders are created from Shopify order data, with fulfillment details synchronized back into the customer experience.
  • Scalable Storefront: Custom collection, product, vehicle, brand, service, and build content turns the underlying data into a focused shopping experience.

The Results

  • Multiple supplier sources connected to Shopify through a shared catalog and integration layer
  • A repeatable category and fitment process for turning raw supplier data into storefront-ready products
  • Vehicle-aware shopping that lets customers browse compatible parts and save vehicles in My Garage
  • Operational tooling for imports, scheduled syncs, supplier routing, and fulfillment updates
  • A reusable foundation for adding suppliers, product categories, and vehicle data without rebuilding the platform

Why This Matters

The finished platform makes Shopify more than a storefront. It connects the catalog infrastructure behind the business to the product discovery experience customers see, then carries accurate order and fulfillment data through the operation.

For automotive merchants, scalable ecommerce depends on reliable fitment, clean supplier data, and practical operational controls. Building those systems together creates a stronger foundation for both customer confidence and catalog growth.

Complex catalogs need systems that make every product easier to manage and buy.

Auto Expedition brought supplier catalogs, vehicle data, product discovery, orders, and fulfillment into a single commerce platform.

Minion designed the storefront and the operational systems behind it so customers can shop with confidence and the internal team can manage complexity at scale.

If your Shopify project extends beyond the storefront, let’s talk. Minion builds the applications, integrations, and workflows required to support the full customer experience.

We work hard to make the complicated simple. Providing our clients with the tools they need to grow their business.

“ Working with Minion for the Gravity Blankets website redesign was a great experience overall. From day 1, they understood our pain points with our current site and what we wanted to achieve with our new site. They used this input and their expertise to build a design that achieved these from Day 1. We barely had any edits on the design as result. Throughout the process, the team was very quick to implement the content and any tweaks we had along the way. Their system for flagging these tasks also kept things very organized. We would get updates as items were completed so it saved us from reaching out for status updates. ”

“ The team at Minion were fantastic and really efficient at realising our designs. It was a complex site with 20 years of features and nuances that were being migrated to new platform and design, and Minion handled the build like seasoned experts. “ Minion has been a good partner throughout a lengthy multi-site project! They know their stuff, and have taken the time to get to know our stuff (Triple Eight Helmets, Pads, and Protective Gear worn by everyone from the world's best skateboarders like Tony Hawk - to kids just starting out in the cul-de-sac). We started with a long list of objectives and requirements, and we've been able to work together creatively and collaboratively through all phases of the project, from the design of the theme to the function of each aspect of the Shopify store, and even the development of a couple of custom apps. If you are looking for a good team to build your Shopify Store - I recommend Minion. ”
